Possibly our most embarassing and hypocritical sin in the United States is that of abortion. It is a sin committed on the average of almost 30 babies per 10 minutes, well over 150 per hour. And our nation stresses human rights for ALL people. No wonder foreign countries tell us to stay out of their business when we insist that they improve their human rights policies. Just how hypocritical can one get?
The article below, taken from the TheBible.net (An outstanding resource website) offers good information, but is by no means exhaustive on the subject. I hope you will also visit my website of Sermons by Subject where you will find 10 more excellent lessons on this subject.
One of the favorite reasons given by pro-abortionists is that a woman should have the right to say what happens concerning her body. Maybe so, but once she has participated in giving life to another, no matter where that life may be, she has no God given right to destroy that body.
The needless, wanton, taking of innocent human life
is murder. No single action taken by a human being
upon another is as hideous as abortion for the sake
of convenience. Each year in the United States there
are about 1,500,000 abortions. Since the Supreme Court
of the United States legalized unrestricted abortion,
January 22, 1973, there have been about 35 million
such procedures through 1996, as reported by the National
Right to Life organization. And this is multiplied
the world over.
The methods of abortion as practiced legally in the
United States of America are several, occurring at
different stages of development upon the unborn. I
thought about giving a detailed explanation for each,
but decided you can go to the National Right to Life
web site which details each procedure (http://www.nrlc.org/abortion/asmf.html).
Keep in mind that the vast majority of abortions performed
each year are for personal convenience. Even in many
abortions which are said to protect the life of the
mother, its not the physical threat of death at stake,
but factors as emotional stability and economic security
- again, convenience.
The influences of humanism, situation ethics, and evolution
have robbed mankind of his identity. God declared from
the very beginning of creation: "Let us make man
in our image, after our likeness.... So God created
man in his own image, in the image of God created he
him; male and female created he them" (Genesis
1:26-27). The apostle Paul declared that it is God
who: "...giveth to all life, and breath, and all
things" (Acts 17:25).
Since it is God who created man, created life, it stands
to reason that human life begins when it is formed
- at conception and that it is God who causes the conception.
"So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and
when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception,
and she bare a son" (Ruth 4:13).
It is God who fashions the unborn in the womb. Job said:
"Did not he that made me in the womb make him?
and did not one fashion us in the womb?" (Job
31:15). Referring to God, Job said: "Thou hast
clothed me with skin and flesh, and hast fenced me
with bones and sinews" (Job 10:11). And in the
beautiful language of the Psalms, David wrote: "For
thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me
in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully
and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and
that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not
hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously
wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes
did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy
book all my members were written, which in continuance
were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them"
(Psalms 139:13-16).
Yet, we slaughter and murder, by state sanction, 1.5
million precious, innocent, unborn every year in the
United States, a nation founded upon Judeo-Christian
ethics. And we call Adolf Hitler a monster. May God
have mercy upon our blood stained hands, America.
