In the last issue of Today’s Alternative, ever trying to show how Satan seeks to hinder the church that Christ established in the first century A.D., I mentioned that in Acts 19:23, Christianity is spoken of as the Way. It is the way of Christ brought down from heaven to mankind. It is a divine way. The way deity teaches through which one receives the blessings of God. According to Jesus, it is the only way by which anyone can receive those blessings. You can confirm that by the words of Jesus in John 14:6.
In connection with that, I mentioned that a presidential candidate, though having been a member of the United Church of Christ denomination for more than twenty years, does not believe what Jesus said. In his own words, he said, “Jesus is an historical figure for me, and he’s also a bridge between God and man, in the Christian faith … And he’s also a wonderful teacher.” Jesus claims to be THE bridge between God and man, not a bridge among others. A wonderful teacher does not represent himself falsely. You can read the entirety of his remarks at http://www.christianadc.org/pages/page.asp?page_id=38840.
This strikes at the heart of what Christianity is all about. The New Testament teaches that a Christian is one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. Read Acts 8:35-37. This is not just a national issue--it’s about the kingdom of God on earth, the church of Christ. There are more churches of Christ and Christians in two other nations than in the United States. This is a kingdom issue. Is Jesus, or is He not, the only Way to the Father, as He said in John 14:6?
In Christ’s church, salvation is not based on gender, race, position, or status; all are one in Christ Jesus as Paul said in Galatians 3:28. But the foundation truth of Christianity is that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, as Peter proclaimed in Matthew 16:16. Jesus said in John 8:24, “If you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
