Aids To Understanding The Bible # 08-210 (April 23, 2008)
Satan, Sin & The Church # 40, (Acts 19:6 #2)

Last week we looked at a passage that, coupled with related verses of the New Testament, shows that only the apostles received from the Holy Spirit the power to impart to others miraculous gifts, enabling them to work miracles.

These miraculous gifts were given to those selected by the Holy Spirit for the purpose of confirming that the words they spoke were from God. The miracles authenticated their message. No one today has their claims confirmed and authenticated by God. This shows that their claims of receiving messages from God are false.

One of the latest to claim receiving a divine message from Jesus is a lady by the name of Helen Schucman who has written a 365 day study of “A Course in Miracles.”

She states in this course, “There is no sin…,” and that a “slain Christ has no meaning” (pages 183 & 424). Lesson 70 teaches, “My salvation comes from me.” She seeks to remove the need for Christ and place salvation within each individual. She also teaches that feelings and thoughts of salvation through Jesus Christ are just an idea invented by yourself and you should train yourself to relinquish that idea.

These new age contradictions of God’s word are rooted in the minds of those who do not want to be restricted by God’s word from trying to make themselves a god, just as Eve did (Genesis 3:5).

Perhaps her foremost disciple is one loved by many, the popular Oprah Winfrey. Oprah stated in reference to Jesus as the one way of salvation, “There couldn’t possibly be just one way!” That’s certainly what Satan wants us to believe.

As with all who make such claims as Schucman, there is no authentication. Things they claim as miracles are as different as night from day than the miracles of the Bible. The Bible is the only authentic course of miracles.

Questions To Aid Your Spiritual Growth:
1. What was the purpose of the miraculous gifts given by the Holy Spirit?
2. Has anyone walked on water, been raised from the dead, or been resurrected since the first century?
3. Has Schucman’s claim of a divine message from Jesus been confirmed or authenticated?

Forward this to a friend you want to influence for Christ.
